Customer.io is a customer messaging platform for behavioral email, push, and SMS campaigns. This Arcade toolkit enables LLMs to manage contacts, query campaign and newsletter metrics, drive lifecycle journeys via events, and send transactional and broadcast messages — all against the Customer.io API.

Capabilities

  • Contact management: Look up, create, update, delete, and search people by email, ID, or segment/attribute filters; inspect a person's activity timeline, message history, and segment memberships.
  • Segment & audience introspection: List all workspace segments, enumerate members of a segment, and combine segment and attribute filters to build targeted audiences.
  • Campaign & newsletter analytics: Retrieve aggregate delivery metrics for campaigns and newsletters over configurable time periods; list all campaigns and newsletters to discover their IDs.
  • Event & journey triggering: Record named custom events on a person's timeline to advance lifecycle journeys; trigger API broadcasts to segments or explicit recipient lists.
  • Transactional & broadcast messaging: List transactional message templates and send a transactional email to a single recipient by template ID; list and trigger broadcasts.

Secrets

This toolkit requires no OAuth flow but uses four secrets that must be configured explicitly.

  • CUSTOMERIO_APP_API_KEY — A Customer.io App API key, used for the App API (beta/data endpoints such as people search, segment membership, campaign metrics, and message delivery history). Generate one in the Customer.io dashboard under Settings → API Credentials → App API Keys. The key is shown only at creation time, so copy it immediately.

  • CUSTOMERIO_TRACKING_API_KEY — The Tracking API key for your workspace, used for write operations against the Track API (identify, event recording, etc.). Found in the Customer.io dashboard under Settings → API Credentials → Tracking API Keys. Each workspace has a paired Site ID and Tracking API key.

  • CUSTOMERIO_SITE_ID — The workspace Site ID that pairs with CUSTOMERIO_TRACKING_API_KEY for Tracking API authentication. Located in the same Settings → API Credentials section of the dashboard.

  • CUSTOMERIO_REGION — Identifies the Customer.io data region for your workspace (us or eu). This determines which base URL the toolkit uses (e.g., api.customer.io vs eu-api.customer.io). Find your region in the Customer.io dashboard under Settings → Workspace Settings.

Configure these secrets in the Arcade secret store. See the Arcade secrets guide for setup instructions, or manage them directly at https://api.arcade.dev/dashboard/auth/secrets.
